wHAT’S A RICH-CLUB ANYWAY?

The Rich-Club is the region of the brain which acts as the backbone for information transfer. Since the Rich-Club is a key player in information transfer, healthy maturation of this area is incredibly important for healthy brain development. Disruptions within normal development can result in faulty cognition, reduced speeds in information processing, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and the autism spectrum.

OUR MANIFESTO

what do we do?

Neuro Rich-Club is a student-held club at the University of British Columbia and addresses the struggles of first year students. Our mission is to support the mental health issues of freshmen in campus as they go through the transition to undergraduate studies by developing a connection with peers who they feel have a better understanding of the barriers facing students. This level of personal connection can lead to a stronger support system and allow the students with mental health issues to develop greater resiliency.

THE PROBLEMS WE WANT TO SOLVE

Transitioning from a chaperoned high-school environment to a completely independent university lifestyle can be incredibly difficult for many first-year students. This hardship becomes highlighted when assessing mental health statistics. According to the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, “35% of first-year college students suffered from mental illness, particularly depression or anxiety” (Eva, 2019). We understand mental wellness’s effect on overall brain health and more particularly academic performance. This is why mental health is one among our organization’s top priorities.

how we want to make a changE

At Neuro Rich-Club, we focus on brain health. Our main focus is splitting brain health into two major categories.
